New Visions Arts Festival

Mortal Engine

Hong Kong is at the center of new visions for politics, economics, and art.
This week the New Visions Arts Festival starts off with China’s global music diva Dadawa, whose show is aptly titled Hear the World.
Other highlights of this international gathering include the Australian dance group Chunky Move performing Mortal Engine, a dance-video-music-laser piece that appears to defy gravity. The Butterfly Effect brings together Japanese taiko, Western kit and African drums for a true ripple effect. The festival closes with Japan’s most famous onnagata, Bando Tamasaburo collaborating with China’s Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre for a once in a lifetime production of The Peony Pavillion.
