Mike Grubbs: Wakey!Wakey!

Mike GrubbsThe band Wakey!Wakey! is preparing for their first trip to SXSW this year, and frontman Mike Grubbs is loving the controlled chaos of this up-and-coming quintet. With a sound that ranges from crowd-pleasing pop to thumping indie rock, Wakey!Wakey!’s latest album — Almost Everything I wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You, is a tour de force.

In this podcast Mike talks about his career in music and theater, how he could not imagine life without social networking tools, and why his band is just like the A-Team.

[...] Everything is big in Texas — barbecue, politics, cowboy hats, sports, and this week, the music! SXSW Music is 25 years old and has become a destination event for the music industry, bands and fans. Capping off SXSW’s Interactive and Film festivals, SXSW Music has a lot of music. How much? Try more than 2,000 bands on 90 stages over five days. To name just a few of the highlights, South Africa’s Tidal Waves (“the hardest working reggae band in South Africa) brings old-school Zulu guitar pop and distortion happy-punk; New York’s boys grow up to be a Caveman; Cleveland’s newest art on the edge of Dylan Baldi’s Cloud Nothings; noise-pop of Sleigh Bells; and the wild Surfer Blood (“you will know us by the trail of dead”). In addition to the panels, parties, acts, and new tech roll-outs, be sure to check out the debut of Jack White’s Third Man Rolling Record Store.
