Festivals I dream about going to
« on: January 05, 2006, 12:12:28 PM » by Ana Maria
There's a list. We all have them. A list of the countries I'd like to visit, people I'd like to meet. My work with KadmusArts has generated a new and growing list of festivals that I'd love to go to.  At the very top is the World Sacred Music Festival of Fez, in Morocco  http://kadmusarts.com/festivals/1658.html.

This year's theme is harmony, something the world certainly could use more of. In addition to a wonderful line-up of free sacred music concerts, there is a colloquium that includes topics such as "Religions, Wars and Peace: Can we choose?".  I'd be able to visit Morocco and participate in a festival that promotes music and culture as a bridge rather than a barrier.  What a concept!

What's your list?

Big Day Out (http://kadmusarts.com/festivals/1772.html) also looks pretty great. Has anyone out there been to it? Is it better in NZ or Australia?

Any other suggestions for the Southern Hemisphere?

The big one for me is the "Festival in the Desert", held near Tomboctou, Mali. - http://www.festival-au-desert.org/. It's an amazing assortment of musicians, and it would be fantastic to heart these amazing performers in the middle of the malian desert.

For me it is the Fringe, the biggest and the best, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  As the largest arts festival in he world it is the best chance for seeing innovative productions alongside some of the more famous companies and playwrights of the age. See you there in 2006.

I dream about going to the Fez Festival with Ana Maria.  For the same reasons, and of course just to be with her.

I dream of going to the Winnipeg Folk Festival someday. Some of my favorite people in the world positively glow when they describe it. It was one friend's trip to that fest that led to my discovery of the great Canadian band Moxy Fruvous. But, while the bands are the ones who get the much-deserved press, I've heard that it's the audience that people keep coming back for. Good people... like the folks at KadmusArts.

Those festivals you all are talking about sound so awesome. I look forward to becoming educated on the numerous places that hold festials. One of the places that I look forward to going to some day is the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Not only do I like the music and acts that play there, I love the views that one gets to see when the music is playing...some day.
