The annual cultural heritage celebration of Sbiba originated thousands of years ago as a peace truce among the warring Oraren and Tar’Orfit which was considered the longest in the history of the tribes Ajjer. The dates are determined by the Islamic calendar beginning on the first day of the year of the Muharram until the fist day of Ashura. The Fête Touareg de la Sbiba in Djanet brings together local tribes to celebrate the peace pact that was initiated by their ancestors.
The festivities include friendly games and dances that depict warriors in full regalia. Costumed dancers with ceremonial weapons reenact the final act where warriors come face to face. The wise elders then intervene to end the "war" and renew the peace pact. The annual reenactment solidifies the united cultural heritage of the Tassili.
|Festival Dates||November 14 - 24, 2012|
