The festival program features authors and speakers and contemporary thinkers, both Indian and from the international arena. Our festival in Kerala, the beautiful southern state in India, is a stunning three days of debate, conversation and cultural exchange.
For more than twenty years Hay Festival has brought writers, musicians, film-makers and scientists together from around the world to cross cultural and genre barriers and foster the exchange of ideas. Hay sets literature within a wider cultural and social context and creates live festivals with internationally resonant media impact. In Bill Clinton’s famous phrase it is ‘the Woodstock of the mind’.
Over the last ten years it has become a global not-for-profit charity that runs projects and festivals worldwide, including Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, Xalapa in Mexico, Segovia in Spain, Nairobi in Kenya, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Beirut in Lebanon as well as our festival on the Welsh Borders. Hay Festival was awarded the Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2009.
