The River Raisin Jazz Festival is a FREE Jazz Festival held in St. Mary’s Park in Downtown Monroe, Michigan on the Historic River Raisin the 2nd weekend in August each year. The event began in 2002. Headliners have included Chuck Mangione, Chris Botti, Alexander Zonjic, Spyro Gyra, David Sanborn, Chuck Loeb, Nelson Rangell, Ray Parker Jr, The Rippington’s and many more. A 2nd Stage and Art Fair are held each year in the Downtown area just two blocks away. It is estimated that more than 50,000 people attend the festival each year, making it the largest weekend event in Monroe County. Media sources have called River Raisin “one of the fastest growing and finest Jazz Festivals in the Great Lakes”.
The line-up of artists include a very diverse sampling of the genre including fusion, salsa, straight ahead and smooth…and also includes Motown acts, school and university groups and community big bands. Monroe’s arts, culture and history is well known thanks to businesses like La-Z-Boy Incorporated, Monroe Auto Equipment (Monroe Shock Absorbers), Monroe Bank & Trust and others who are headquartered there. Monroe is also the home of Gen. George A. Custer and his family, the River Raisin (War of 1812) National Battlefield Park, Wm. C. Sterling State Park on Lake Erie and more. Monroe is known for being the Walleye Capital of the World, the Golf Capital of Michigan and one of the state’s oldest communities. Cabela’s the World’s Foremost Outfitter has a huge super store in Dundee which is in west Monroe County.
The River Raisin Jazz Festival is proud to bring high quality LIVE entertainment to the citizens and visitors of Monroe County. Visitors from over 35 of the 50 United States have been in attendance at the event.
