Festival Description

The Desert Rhythm Festival program offers diverse music styles, food and entertainment all intended to unite all cultures together in harmony. The two-day event encompasses more than ten hours of performances with fire dancers performing between the music sets. To augment the international flavor of the event there will be international food and beverage marquees on site—each one representing a different country through its ambience and decor. Shisha tents will provide a place to enjoy tobacco. The program includes music in the styles of Arabic, Turkish, Latin, Urban, Reggae, Caribbean, Italian, Western and Indian beats.

Headliners 2008:
  • Paul Weller (UK), headliner
  • Kassav' (Martinique, West Indies)
  • The Wailers featuring Elan (USA)
  • Vix ‘n’ the Kix (UK)

About the Artists:
  • Bob Marley’s original band The Wailers who have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide and have notched up over 20 chart hits in England alone, are coming to Dubai for the first time with Elan, their newest band member since 1998. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe.
  • Vix ‘n’ the Kix, comprising Vix, Trix, Slix and Chix, are currently promoting their new album Moon On A Stick. Vix is best known up until this point as the lead singer/songwriter of all-girl band We’ve got a …Fuzzbox… and we’re gonna use it!! So wide was their appeal that they achieved the rare feat of appearing on the covers of Smash Hits and NME in the same week in the UK, in the late 80’s.
  • Juliana Down, voted a year ago as Dubai’s favourite band on Time Out Dubai, will perform some of their new material. They have just received the “Honorable Mention of Billboard Song Contest” in recognition of having their original song composition Always on my Mind among the Top 1500 entries of the 15th Annual Billboard World Songwriting Contest. “Only the highest quality songs make it to the top. This honour demonstrates the talent and dedication it takes to write a Hit Song”, mentions the certificate.
Competition winners:
  • Competition winners of Back 2 School festival Move IT and rock IT will also perform on the day of the event, after having been voted by the audience at the first ever under 18 dedicated event in the Middle East, on October 17th at Dubai Festival City.
