International Vocal Music Festival “Viva il canto”
The Viva il canto Festival (long live the song!) features presentations of various musical forms—oratorios, opera performances, recitals, chamber and choir concerts, etc. Each year 600 performers visit Cieszyn and take part in the festival at notable venues such as Cieszyn churches, Adam Mickiewicz Theatre and The National House concert halls as well as open-air concerts at the Cieszyn Marketplace and The Castle Hill. Young artists are often the festival guests since the promotion of young singers is one of the festival’s aims. Recently the idea of organizing various workshops and master courses has been developed to enable the further development of the artistic youth so that they may spread their wings.
|Festival Dates||August 28 - September 3, 2011|
The festival began in 1992 with its organization coming from the festival directorship of Małgorzata Mendel—a musician at the Artistic Department of The Silesian University; and Kałudi Kałudow—the famous tenor, as the artistic director for the first 12 years. In addition, Cieszyn former Mayor Dr. Jan Olbrycht was also involved. From that point until 2005 The Viva il canto Festival had been organized by The Cieszyn Association of Music Admirers. Currently it is organized by The Via Musica Association. Through this organization The International Musical Workshop of Artistic Youth has come to exist. The future plans of the Association include organizing the European Vocal School in Cieszyn in the coming future.
