Festival Description

The International Mime and Physical Theatre Festival takes place in the theatre Teatr Na Woli. Since 2000, when it began the festival was challenged to modify, or more precisely, to extend its formula since the art of mime continues to change throughout the world. The theatres that are presented in this edition, draw from classical pantomime, but they exceed its borders, and reach for additional means of expression that traditional pantomime does not typically recognize.

In the Polish language there doesn’t yet exist the equivalent word for the English “physical theatre”, which denotes a different artistic phenomenon of, what in Poland is called the “theatre of movement”, and it’s precisely there, in “physical theatre” that the possible future of pantomime lies. Today, it already is a prevailing trend, even if it is not accepted by traditionalists. This extension/transgression is a natural process of all the living arts.
