Festival Description

The Portland Jazz Festival is an annual, multi-venue series of jazz events presented each February within the downtown area of Portland, Oregon. The Festival is dedicated to furthering jazz as America’s most indigenous art form by presenting contemporary jazz masters in a concert setting; nurturing local jazz musicians presented within intimate, free performances; and celebrating February as Black History Month with a series of jazz education and outreach programs that extend into Portland’s schools and community centers.

There will be dozens of ways to experience jazz, through performances, lectures, films and exhibitions. In the last three years, Portland Jazz Festival, a non-profit corporation, has presented such acclaimed talent as Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Dianne Reeves, Regina Carter, Charlie Haden, Patricia Barber, Eddie Palmieri, Gary Burton, Poncho Sanchez, Nicholas Payton, Miguel Zenon, Luciana Souza, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Locke, plus over 150 free concerts, showcasing such regional artists as Tom Grant, Greta Matassa, Dave Peck, and Nancy King. In addition PDX Jazz has offered nearly 70 jazz education and outreach programs, including middle school assemblies, public workshops, lectures, and master classes, at various locations during the entire 10-day festival.
