Festival Description

Beginning in 1991 in Greensboro with two dance concerts, NC Dance Festival has rapidly expanded to include six North Carolina cities. All sites include work by their local artists on Festival concerts, and outreach initiatives within their areas—bringing festival performers to schools and community centers to teach, talk and dance.

The Festival is organized to establish a network of venues for professional regional choreography and performance. Under the direction of Jan Van Dyke, the festival seeks to expand the accessibility of dance throughout the state while raising the profile of North Carolina’s own artists. The mission of the festival is to increase the North Carolina dance community and create an open, arts-supportive environment where ideas can be shared. Through Festival funds regional artists are provided the means to support the creation of their original choreographic works. The North Carolina Dance Festival encourages the public in the arts, particularly in terms of building awareness and exposure to modern dance. Now celebrating our 15th year we are proud to support the dance artists of North Carolina.

Festival Dates September 13, 2013 - February 9, 2014
