Festival Description

The overriding aim of the Wychwood Festival is to provide a weekend on a scale that feels equally intimate for artist and audience alike, an event that mixes workshops with live music so that everyone comes away with a new experience of living music and cultural understanding, rather than just being a spectator. Blurring the boundaries between music styles somewhere between roots and world music, a cornucopia of sound, art and entertainment should keep all ages enthralled.

Wychwood is an eco-friendly festival and supports “The Big Ask” which is Friends of the Earth’s campaign on climate change. It encourages people to ask questions and take action. The Big Ask wants decisive action from the UK Government to tackle climate change. That’s why we’re calling for a law with annual targets to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions.     • Wychwood Festival is thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Feel Good Friday’, extending the opening hours of Friday’s unmissable entertainment offering a full day of programming with people able to pitch up from 10:00am and see bands from Midday. To celebrate, Wychwood Festival welcomes Soul II Soul to headline Friday’s stellar line-up bringing the ultimate party classics that will raise the metaphorical festival roof and have the entire crowds dancing throughout the night. Toploader will warm up the festival crowds with huge hits that span from Dancing In The Moonlight to Achilles Heel and promising a serious amount of feel good fun. Mausi are the final Friday act to be announced from the Smashing Blouse collective with material that has been tipped to top the charts this year. Transporting festival-goers into a summer paradise with the hugely successful single Sol that achieved fantastic support from BBC Radio 1 and over 200,000 video hits online, if there is a band to see this summer, Mausi is it.

  • Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain
    • Wychwood Festival invites festival goers to bring their ukuleles to this year’s event to play in a very special secret gig with the phenomenal Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain ahead of their main stage performance on Sunday afternoon. Revellers will be given a one in a lifetime opportunity to join a rogue band of underground, maverick ukulele players. Taking place on Sunday 2nd June at this year’s Wychwood Festival on Cheltenham Race Course, ticket holders with a ukulele of their own can join in for the secret gig.     • Attendees can play with the group
      Music fans and players attending this year’s festival will be given a chance to dust off their ukuleles and join forces with arguably the most talented ukulele band in the world, The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain. Those who wish to improve their ukulele skills will be able to join local ukulele group, The Ukeholics who will be running a workshop on the Saturday of the festival to help rehearse a few tunes, plus there will be a late night practice session on the campsite too. All participants will be told the time and location of the secret show on Sunday and will then join forces with the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and dozens of other ukulele players to spring a surprise performance on fellow festival goers.
