Festival Description

The arts festival Belluard Bollwerk International takes place over ten days every year, announcing the summer in Fribourg — a city that lies on the crossroads of the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland. This year the festival celebrates its 30th birthday in 2013, as always presenting many new and inspiring Swiss and international projects from the fields of theatre, dance, performance, visual arts, video and music. Moreover, the festival fosters stimulating exchanges and discussions between artists and other professionals and encourages reflection and imaginative thinking.

Known for its consistent high quality curated program, the unique mediaeval venue of the Belluard fortress and its inviting, convivial atmosphere, it holds a special place in the Swiss and European festival landscape. The Belluard Festival offers exposure to the works of emerging and established artists and as well as producing a number of new productions through an open call, this year based on the theme FUTURE NOSTALGIA. From the old Belluard fortress to the modern arts centre Ancienne Gare and site-specific projects in the public space, the festival takes over the city, transforming it into a pulsating landscape. At the heart of the festival, KITCHAIN, creators meet visitors and professionals meet amateurs. Here, one eats, drinks and talks into the night.
