Since 2006 the annual Virgin Festival has presented star-studded rock music on the Island Park of Toronto. With its heritage set squarely in music, the Virgin brand promises to deliver an unrivalled experience in live music. While the artists get the well-deserved spotlight, the Virgin Mobile Virgin Festival delivers more than just performances from the best international and local bands. Both Virgin Festivals—in Toronto and Vancouver offer unique festival experiences—from an interactive V-Village with a variety of vendors, food from around the world and for all dietary requests, to special services like massages, tattoo artists and hair stylists.
Virgin’s founder and company president, Richard Branson puts his money where his mouth is: Branson has offered a 25 million dollar prize to scientists as incentive for combating global warming by coming up with a solution for cleaning up atmospheric greenhouse gases. On the festival front Branson is just as serious. The Virgin Festival plays a part in Branson’s plan to involve everyone in the the participation of adding green to their everyday lives. The festival has brought in a fleet of hybrid cars for festival-goers to get a close look at; biodiesel generators are used to power the stage lights; the Festival’s involvement with Global Inheritance, a Los Angeles-based organization that reaches indivuals—especially the youth as it seeks to ‘reinvent activism in todays young generation’; concert-goers are encouraged to exchange bottles and cans (thrown away at the show) and cash them in for prizes such as iPod speakers and skateboard decks.
