Festival Description

Following the smash success of its inaugural festival in 2010, SHIR MADNESS® returns to Bondi Beach with a fresh and generous helping of wild and wonderful Jewish Music. Shir Madness is a full day-night music festival showcasing and celebrating the diversity of Jewish music and Jewish performers. This year it brings together outstanding local performers as well as guest artists from Israel, England, America, New Zealand, Northern NSW and Victoria.

The festival will feature music to appeal to all tastes and all ages. With 5 stages and up to 40 acts over 11 hours from 11am through ‘til late — it’s a delicious musical mixed plate where you can simply taste or totally get your teeth into! Klezmer, choral, ladino, chassidic, Israeli, jazz, cabaret, folk, blues, pop, rock, funk, reggae and rap… you’ll find it all at Shir Madness®!

Last year, over 2000 people - a complete cross-section of Sydney music-lovers- packed the iconic and picturesque beach-side venue. They enjoyed not only a mind-blowing variety of music but also visual arts and crafts, exotic food stalls and a true festival atmosphere. This year’s program will have all this and more, including dance and short films.

In 2012 the day-long festival features all new artists plus a couple of high profile favourites returning by invitation – among them triple Aria-Award-winning gypsy jazz legends Monsieur Camembert. Big name debutants this year include Melbourne’s wild gypsy pop Barons of Tang, Australian Pop-Rock star Old Man River, famous New York a capella choir The Western Wind, the London Klezmer Quartet and Australian classical music star Simon Tedeschi. More big-name artists (Australian & international) will be released over the summer… so bookmark in your browser now! There you’ll find the full program, artist updates and info, links to music samples and on-line ticketing information including early-bird offers.
