Renaissance Festival of Rethymnon
The Rethymnon Renaissance Festival, in the Greek island of Crete. offers performances in the castle, Venetian churches, Mosques, streets and squares of Rethymno. The Festival remains faithful to creatively weave the bonds between past and present times and to revitalize the way of approaching arts and science in connection to our relationship with nature. It aims at becoming a centre for the revitalization and support of cross cultural exchange among people, as well as between Science and Art, opening the paths for a dialogue which, at the past times, has been characterized not only by exchange of cultural elements, but, mainly, by debates, disputes, and wars.
The focal point of the festival is the first natural and most loved musical instrument, the human voice. Our journey to early music, charmed by the magic of this exceptionally beautiful city, is mostly through vocal music. Our companions to this journey are famous soloists and ensembles.
The visitor will enjoy street events, The Philosopher’s game “— presented by scientists and students, Renaissance games for “young or adult” children, theatrical performances, and art exhibitions. Our festival planning was based upon the intention to attract families to a quality festival, in which children and adults will attend with pleasure, in order to enjoy themselves, learn and to be the festival’s protagonists!
|Festival Dates||August 25 - September 5, 2013|
