Festival Description

TanzWerkstatt Berlin was founded in 1988 and incorporated into Kulturveranstaltungs-GmbH in 1992, and is dedicated to supporting and presenting new approaches and works in the field of international contemporary dance that are open to influences from other media and experiment with new forms. Choreographers are chosen to explore their creative roots and re-examine their development as artists by taking a new look at work from their past.

Works from a number of countries will be presented that highlight current trends and developments in the international contemporary dance scene. In addition to cutting-edge European productions, the program features new work from African, Asian, North American, and Berlin artists. The festival also creates a forum for discussing issues and topics relevant to the contemporary dance scene. Talks, labs, workshops, interventions, and a new, where you can eat, relax and enjoy live events with some of the festival artists. The festival consists of an international series of guest performances at various venues, discussion forums and workshops conducted by renowned artists for professional dancers and choreographers. In addition to the morning technique class familiar from previous years, this year’s workshop program focuses on coaching and mentoring projects for young choreographers and dancers.
