An Ngoni in Savannah

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

BassekouKouyate_3 Should you need any convincing that blues-based music owes its roots to West Africa, just listen to Bassekou Kouyate play the ngoni, the ancestor of the banjo. Collaborations with Western musicians ranging from Bonnie Raitt to Bono bring the music full circle. You can hear him perform music from his latest album “I speak Fula” at the Savannah Music Festival, April 2-3.
