Philadelphia Live Arts Festival

Le Continental

Philadelphia Live Arts Festival celebrates 16 years with 16 days of amazing and internationally significant work by artists from near and far.
The city’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway is transformed by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s interactive experience Open Air, where a mobile app using participants’ voices and GPS positions control robotic searchlights creating an enormous three-dimensional canopy of light.
Also larger than life, Sylvain Émard Danse’s Le Grand Continental brings together more than 200 Philadelphia-area residents to learn a 30-minute contemporary dance piece.
Other highlights include: Montreal’s contemporary urban circus troupe Les 7 doigts de la main perform Sequence 8, an explosive piece incorporating theatrical elements with precision acrobatics; and Philly’s own Pig Iron Theatre Company collaborate with Japanese playwright Toshiki Okada on Minister of Mascots, a tale that takes a look at the aftereffects of the March 2011 tsunami.
