Abu Dhabi Festival

Once you’ve had your music & tech fill at SXSW, there’s another tidal wave of the best in art happening on the other side of the world: Abu Dhabi.
Through the theme “Connecting Cultures”, the Abu Dhabi Festival has devised a program that looks both to the Golden Age of Arab history that has contributed so much to science and culture and the future of cross-cultural collaboration.
Some of the highlights include: Anoushka Shankar performs an evening of Raga-Flamenco music from her latest album and world tour Traveller; Revered oud player Nasser Shamma performs a repertoire commissioned by the festival with The Global Music Ensemble, a stellar line-up of musicians from Italy, Spain, the USA, Greece and Colombia; Sutra is a blend of Kung Fu, Tai Chi and contemporary dance brought to life by the collaboration of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Anthony Gormley, Szymon Brzóska with Monks from the Shaolin Temple; and, Young Artists Day fosters a competitive spirit in the young talent of Abu Dhabi’s schools in collaboration with Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble ACJW.
