Edinburgh International Festival

Edinburgh International Festival

Every year, one city in Scotland helps define culture, festivals, and fun. Millions, yes millions, of festival goers travel to Edinburgh for festivals of global performances, books, and fringe. At the center of this festival life is the Edinburgh International Festival.
Festival director Jonathan Mills corrals the hundreds of performances under a unifying principle. This year, “EIF” explores the diverse cultures of Asia.
The Revenge of Prince Zi Dan envisions Hamlet as a Chinese opera. Multimedia artists Stephen Earnhard and Greg Pierce adapt The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Japan’s Haruki Murakami. The National Ballet of China performs a lush interpretation of The Peony Pavilion, a love story for all time. And, of course, there’s more.
The festival closes with a bang as everyone comes together to enjoy the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert.
What could be better than a festival life 24 hours a day! Welcome to Edinburgh!
