Yussef El Guindi: Viewing the Middle East

Yussef El GuindiSeattle-based playwright Yussef El Guindi is the author of numerous plays including Our Enemies, Back of the Throat, and Jihad Jones and the Kalashnikov Babes. He has been awarded the 2010 Middle East America Distinguished Playwright Award, a prize granted every other year by a consortium of San Francisco’s Golden Thread Productions, New York’s Lark Play Development Center and Chicago’s Silk Road Theatre Project.

In this podcast Yussef talks about his ideas for the commissioned play that is part of this award, why theaters in the U.S. are sometimes reluctant to stage work on topics touching on the Middle East, and his perspective on the extraordinary events taking place in Egypt and elsewhere.
