Sunny Jain: the Sound of Red Baraat

Red Baraat by Amy TouchetteLed by Sunny Jain, Red Baraat is the first and only dhol ‘n’ brass band in the U.S., melding North Indian rhythm Bhangra with brass funk and improvisation. The group has delivered amazing performances at festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Chicago World Music Festival, and in January 2011 they will be performing at globalFEST.

Red Baraat played the White House on April 2, 2012 as part of the Initiative on AAPI, launching a new world tour — book your tickets now.

In this interview Sunny talks about the unique sound and feel of the nine-piece band, how the music industry has changed, and who has influenced his approach to music.
