Sonya Mazumdar: the Laya Project

In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, material aid addressed survivors’ physical needs. The Laya Project is a tribute to and a celebration of the cultural and musical spirit of survivors of this massive natural disaster. Envisioned by a multi-national team based with record label and production company EarthSynch, the Laya Project continues to link across cultures, taking on a life of its own.

In this podcast we talk with project director and producer Sonya Mazumdar about the genesis of the Laya Project, why it took over two years to complete, and why we can now look forward to a remix album — A New Day.
