Catherine Filloux: Human Rights Onstage

Catherine FillouxCatherine Filloux is a playwright who focuses on human rights and genocide, telling the stories of individuals and families affected by conflict. She has written several plays about the Cambodian genocide including Where Elephants Weep and Eyes of the Heart. She has been honored with numerous awards, including the Peace Writing Award, the Eric Kocher Playwrights Award, and the New Generations-Future Collaborations Award. Her most recent work, Dog and Wolf, is about a political refugee seeking asylum in the U.S. and her wheelchair-bound lawyer. It is premiering at 59E59 Theaters from February 5 - 21st.

In this interview Catherine talks about how she came to the subject matter of genocide, the sometimes unexpected turns her plays take, and the joy of collaborating with extraordinary people.
