Arts Presenters: Frank London

Frank LondonTrumpeter/composer Frank London is a founding member of the Klezmatics, who have been expanding musical horizons for twenty years. He has performed with John Zorn, LL Cool J, David Byrne and many others.

In this podcast he talks about the parallel evolution of the Klezmatics and world music, what accounts for the longevity of the Klezmatics, and why people create art.

Arts Presenters: Sandra Gibson

Sandra Gibson is President and CEO of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. She has been instrumental in positioning the association to take on a leadership role in the field of performing arts presenting. She has also worked at the American Film Institute, the Public Corporation for the Arts, and Americans for the Arts.

In this interview she talks with us about the critical overarching issues facing the field of performing arts, and the role of government in supporting arts and culture.

Arts Presenters: Tracy and Fabrice Vignati

Arts Presenters: Chris Elam

Chris Elam is the Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer of Misnomer Dance Theater. The company creates contemporary dances about human relationships that are informed by cross-cultural perspectives. In the Fall of 2008 Misnomer received grants to develop a technology platform that will help arts organizations engage audiences and create interactive relationships.

In this podcast Chris talks about what has inspired his choreography, why it has been difficult for dance companies to leverage technology, and offers glimpses into a new frontier in dance.

Arts Presenters: David Gonzalez

David Gonzalez is a storyteller, musician, poet, actor and music therapist. He is a recipient of the Helen Hayes Performing Artist of the Year award, was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, has taught at NYU, and was host of New York Kids on WNYC for eight seasons.

In this podcast David talks about his creative process, why it is important for everyone to tell their stories, how art in the school system liberates the mind, and his latest works, including Wounded Splendor and Sleeping Beauty.
