The Festa Major (Catalan for “big festival”) features within its programs a music festival, illuminations, and a medieval market. The Festa Major is Perpignan’s spectacular, pyrotechnic midsummer celebration. The event has its roots in deep pagan tradition but was incorporated into the festival of Saint Jean in medieval times. It reflects the strong cultural identity and cohesion of the Catalonian region. For oenophiles, there is also the Wine Festival.
