Festival Description

Since 1984 the Biennial was conceived as a multi-disciplinary meeting, open to young artists under 30 years old coming from all the European Mediterranean Countries. The emphasis on promoting the creativity of youth because it is seen as a resource and an opportunity within the cultural market. Therefore, the Biennial represented a way to let young artists express their vision on the world and, at the same time, encouraged young European and Mediterranean artists to meet periodically in the main cities around the Mare Nostrum. The Biennial event changes location — having taken place in Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal and other countries.

Call for artists 2013:
  • The 16th Mediterranea Young Artists Biennial will be held in Ancona, Italy, from June 6th until July 7th 2013. Focusing on regimes of knowledge and mechanism of formation in the field of art, analyzed through the study of informal strategies of learning and self-education practices, Mediterranea 16 is a multidisciplinary event open to artists coming from all over the world and aged under 35 years old. The title of the Biennial will be “Errors Allowed”, as a reference to a different regard given to the position that “mistakes” have in the process of education.
