Tartu Early Music Festival has been held every year starting 1996. The Festival has since its beginning focused on Oriental cultures. Its interest, however, has not been on the cultures as such but, above all, their relations to early European, primarily Medieval culture. During the Middle Ages the most important influence on European culture was exerted by the Arabic world. Tartu Early Music Festival is an interdisciplinary event, which includes concerts, performances, exhibitions, lectures, studysessions and master classes. Among other things it has always featured the Festival Club with its distinctive ambiance. The aim of theFestival has been to create an artistic whole, which has led to many spontaneous joint sessions.
