Festival Description

The annual Black Playwright’s Festival is the initiative of the Black Ensemble Theater as part of the organization’s Black Playwright’s Initiative. New scripts are developed through workshops and rehearsals prior to the festival period and are then brought to the stage for readings. The Festival also features selected full-length plays as well as shorter works. The Black Playwright’s Initiative and the festival serve to support, encourage and foster the development of black playwrights through mentorship and exposure to professionals in the field. The festival functions as a spotlight for talented rising artists as well as established playwrights. All events take place at the Black Ensemble Theater in Chicago.
