Festival Description | The Hartland Family Festival is an annual music festival featuring top South African and local artists since 2005. That first year — the owner of Pienaardam Leisure Resort, Mr. Gerrie Gerrits, decided to host a local musical festival for the people of the area. With the phenomenal growth in Afrikaans music, there was also a need to present performances locally, without travelling long distances. The name of the festival originated from the information boards along the N4 that depicts Mpumalanga as a cultural heartland. In coordination with the local radio station, Radio Kragbron, the first Heartland festival was hosted at Pienaardam Leisure Resort in 2005. The festival has grown and the Heartland hall was improved to cater for a bigger demand. A new stage was built and currently the hall can host 5,000 seated people. In 2008 the visitors increased to an average of 22,000 where a total of 23 local artists performed. In 2009 the resort created an additional exhibitor’s area to accommodate the Merry-go-round. This increased the number of exhibition stalls to 125. |
