Festival Description

Since its inception in 2008, Portland’s Bridgetown Comedy Festival has grown to become one of the largest and most beloved comedy events in the country. The lineup for the 2013 festival features Bridgetown’s signature blend of world-famous headliners—including Reggie Watts, Greg Behrendt, and Todd Glass— and up-and-coming performers from throughout North America.

Festival venues, focused primarily along Hawthorne Boulevard, include the Bagdad Theater, Mt. Tabor Theater, the Hollywood Theatre, and the Hawthorne Theatre and in addition to smaller and more informal performance spaces within Southeast Portland. Audience members can see any of the dozens of shows over the course of the weekend with a single wristband; they can quickly hop from seeing a sold-out show in a 500-seat venue to seeing a national headliner in an intimate, 20-seat performance space on a bar’s back patio.

Highlighted programming 2013:
  • Theme Park
Oscar Nuñez (The Office) and Michael Hitchcock (Best In Show, Glee) join Janet Varney (Burning Love) and Cole Stratton (Rifftrax) for two nights of hilarious long-form improv comedy. Theme Park has become a favorite of Bridgetown audiences, and the troupe makes its third Bridgetown appearance this year, featuring guest monologist Natasha Leggero (Reno 911!, Burning Love).
  • An Early Afternoon with The Simpsons
Longtime Simpsons writers and special Bridgetown guests Matt Selman, Brian Kelley, and Dana Gould reveal the yellow underbelly of the long-running animated hit and American treasure. What is the Springfield-Portland concoction? What surprises will be revealed this season? What are the jokes Fox wouldn’t let you see? These three insiders offer answers to anything and everything Simpsons-related in a forum you won’t want to miss.
  • Lance Bangs’s Come Laugh With Us
Filmmaker Lance Bangs returns to Bridgetown for his third year of curating a night of great standup comedy and rare footage of comedians and musicians from his personal collection, including Moshe Kasher, Howard Kremer, and Karen Kilgariff.
  • The JV Club
Janet Varney hosts this popular podcast on the Nerdist network in which she explores the highs and lows of bygone years with some of her favorite funny ladies. Expect lots of laughs as they talk their way through the terrible teens into some semblance of adulthood.
