Festival Description

The Arab Dance Platform showcases and promotes the work of Arab choreographers in contemporary dance The first edition took place in Beirut, Lebanon in 2009 during BIPOD–Beirut International Platform of Contemporary Dance. More than 20 choreographers were showcased and over 120 international dance presenters, critics and festival directors participated in many of the organized activities. After the success of the launch, greater international participation is expected in the second edition, which will also take place in Beirut in April 2011. Choreographers from numerous Arab countries are invited to present their work, attend lectures, participate in workshops and help foster a network of exchange and collaboration. Selected Contemporary Dance Choreographers from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia and Morocco will present their works and participate in the many additional events.

    • Informal sessions designed for the participants of the Arab Dance Platform and the contemporary dance milieu to meet one another.

    • Lectures and discussions engaging the state of contemporary dance within the Arab region; from a practical and theoretic premise.
  • LEYMOUN–ARAB CONTEMPORARY DANCE NETWORK CONVENING
    • Leymoun is a collaborative network for dancers and choreographers within the Arab World that focuses on the development and cultivation of contemporary dance in the Mediterranean and Arab Region.
  • DANCE PEDAGOGY IN THE ARAB WORLD
    • The Dance Education and Pedagogy Meeting is a continuation of a Symposium on Dance Pedagogy in Arabic Speaking Countries that the ATTC (Arab Theatre Training Center) organized in Bodrum, Turkey in July of 2010, in partnership with Dancing On the Edge (The Netherlands). This Symposium brought together 28 individuals involved in dance pedagogy in the Mediterranean region with the express aim to promote a reflective approach towards dance theories and practices amongst choreographers, dancers, dance teachers and dance researchers engaged in dance pedagogy in the Mediterranean Arabic-speaking countries.
  • FULL ONE-DAY EXCURSION TO A LEBANESE WINERY IN THE BEKAA VALLEY
    • On Sunday, April 24, 2011 participants of the Arab Dance Platform will head to the Bekaa Valley in western Lebanon to enjoy organic Lebanese mezza and a a tasting tour of an authentic Lebanese winery.
