| Festival Description | FLICfest is a new festival dedicated to the art of feature-length dance. The festival’s inaugural season will take place over two weekends, in January at The Irondale Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. An important new platform for the presentation of dance in New York City, FLICfest will feature new and existing works by 12 choreographers. FLICfest aims to create a strong sense of community and a forum for the exchange of ideas among independent choreographers. “We believe that evening-length dance is a crucial form for the exploration of new ideas. FLICfest gives artists a framework to explore and present the depth of their visions, and offers audiences an opportunity to experience a range of choreographic voices,” said Jeramy Zimmerman, FLICfest co-producer and director. FLICfest is a co-production of Jeramy Zimmerman/CatScratch Theatre and The Irondale Center. |

Festival Story:
CatScratch Theatre was founded as a collective in 2000 by Jeramy Zimmerman, Jessica Hirst, Krissie Marty, and Lisa Hetzel. CatScratch Theatre first danced on the Washington, D.C. Metro system and has since performed in non-traditional places such as the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and Chateau Cazals in southeastern France, as well as in more traditional concert dance venues. In 2002, Ms. Zimmerman, through CST Productions, produced “On the Edge: Downtown Festival of Modern Dance,” Washington, DC’s first festival devoted solely to modern dance. Between 2005 and 2009, Ms. Zimmerman, in collaboration with Vox Novus, created and produced 60x60Dance, a structure that brought together 60 choreographers and more than 120 dancers for performances at the World Financial Center and Galapagos Art Space, in New York City. CST’s latest project, Homeland, brings the ideas of encountered performance into a more formalized theater setting. CatScratch Theatre has been based in Brooklyn since 2006. Recognizing that the borough has become an arts nexus in its own right Jeramy Zimmerman/CatScratch Theatre is committed to producing work and supporting collaborative projects in Brooklyn.
The Irondale Center is the home of the award-winning Irondale Ensemble Project. It is a theater, a laboratory, a classroom, and a home for ensemble artists of diverse disciplines. The Center is the first performing arts space to open in the BAM Cultural District. A beautiful and historic space, the theater has been created in the ruins of the old Sunday school building. The Irondale Center is able to support the work of other local companies with theater space subsidies provided by the Brooklyn Community Foundation and New York City Council Member Letitia James. The Irondale Center is located at 86 Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217.

Programming:
- Each evening will feature full-length works (50 to 60 minutes each) by two of these choreographers in Irondale’s main space. The main space presentations will be followed by informal cabaret performances encompassing a variety of styles in the venue’s balcony lounge. Tickets will be available for individual performances, as well as each evening’s complete series of events.
