Festival Description | The Macau Arts Festival is organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau S.A.R. Government. The Macao Arts Festival is an annual event held in May, lasting approximately a month. This event, founded in 1990, aims to bring the arts into the everyday lives of people. As the high point of Macao’s art year, it seeks not only to introduce renowned groups and performers from abroad to Macao residents, but also a special focus on promoting the long and brilliant Chinese artistic tradition to its visitors. Its diverse programme include ballet and modern dances, traditional Chinese opera, family-orientated performances, video and art exhibitions and dramas as well, all which reflect Macao’s unique character and offer another fruitful encounter between East and West. |

Performance feature 2011:
- STONES: Orto-da Theatre Company (Israel)
- Stones is a pantomime show inspired by the sculpture “Rebels of the Ghettoes” by Nathan Rapoport (1911-1987). The performance tells the rebel’s story through the eyes of a sculpture that comes to life. The figures cast in bronze come alive to the sound of voices from the past, and with the sounds of the present they embark on a journey in time and the depths of consciousness. The show deals with the passion for life, the heroic myth and the victory of the spirit. Performed by six mime artists who, using subdued acting, a unique soundtrack and original visual metaphors create a new theatrical Language. Visit the group’s web site at http://orto-da.com/
