Festival Description | Founded in 2002, the Brattleboro Literary Festival was formed by a grassroots initiative headed up by local individuals from Brattleboro’s bookstores and libraries. Established authors of renown including Pulitzer Prize winners, the National Book Award, National Book Critics Circle Award, Newbery Medal, and the Caldecott Medal take part in readings, signing sessions, and discussions. In addition to the important writers of today the festival brings into the fold rising talents in the literary scene. The festival was honored to have featured Nobel Prize winner Saul Bellow in his last public appearance. Brattleboro has been home to notable playwrights, poets for many years and continues to draw active writers. The town’s long history of writers, printers, bookstores and its literary heritage make it a perfect location to gather bibliophiles. |
