Festival Description

The Juneteenth Legacy Theatre is hosted by the Actors Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky. The Festival is Kentucky’s only professional African American Theatre Company producing in Louisville and New York City. The plays presented feature new works by local and national playwrights. Juneteenth celebates African American Independence, commemorated on June 19, 1865 when slaves of the western territories learned of their freedom 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The day was celebated for ten days with story-telling, skill sharing, and prayers of thanksgiving. The Juneteenth festival has been known as Juneteenth Jamboree and is now called Juneteenth Blues Cabaret.

Festival Dates November 4 - 20, 2010
