The Fez Festival of Sufi Culture began in 2007 and features a program of music, dancing, lectures and meetings based on Sufism. The program includes the participation of Sufi brotherhoods from different countries and cultures taking part in the music, dance performances and art meetings. The Sufi’s spiritual and artistic traditions are relevant and important in contemporary society as a means of bridging the communities of divergent cultures. The organizers seek to bring the spiritual and cultural traditions to the people of Morocco to encourage peaceful and meaningful ways of human development. Sufism inspires mediations of peace and opens dialogue between the religions and the cultures. The Festival thus contributes to the “message of peace, universality and spirituality registers in the heart of Islam” according to the festival founder, Faouzi Skali.
