Festival Description | The Source Festival’s premise is about artistic collaborations—rather than on individual artists. DC’s Source Theatre Company will host artistic directors from around the country who will direct 10 minute plays in collaboration with up-and-coming playwrights. The three-week festival will feature 24 10-minute plays during the first week. Each play will be directed by a local artistic director within the model of a 24-hour “play building” event in which every play will be written, rehearsed, and performed in 24 hours. The second week of the festival will feature multidisciplinary performances—spoken word, performance art, dance, music, and stand-up comedy. This section of the festival is to encourage and support the work of emerging artists in a variety of disciplines. The third week showcases four 45-minute one-act plays. These national plays will be selected by the festival commission, and will be directed by four of Washington’s most recognized freelance directors. The Source Theatre Company’s Source festival was originally titled the Washington Theatre Festival. |
