| Festival Description | “Jazz lives in Syria” Festival is held in the cities of Damascus and Aleppo during July. The international program features six jazz evenings in Damascus and six in Aleppo. In addition to the jazz evenings there are various concerts of Syrian Jazz bands on the same dates. Musical workshops for Syrian musicians are conducted in order to promote and to enhance the level of jazz musicians in Syria. A one-day event has been planned for the purpose of introducing children to jazz through games and mini performances. The Syrian Swiss Jazz Orchestra, consisting of 22 musicians from Damascus and Aleppo accompanied by jazzmen from Switzerland have transcended cultural borders and have created harmonious interpretations of original scores. Well-known composers produced works for this special event, including Nareg Abajian, Yuri Nicolas, A. Dunkel, and Frank Carlberg (NL). The Festival is orgnanized by the Swiss Embassy. |
