Festival Description | The short play festival began in 1975 and is Manhattan's oldest continuous short play festival. National and international theater companies and schools participate in the competitive festival. Aspiring writers submit their works that involve the collaboration of the writer with the producing organization to produce the work. The collaborative process encourages the creative process that has produced many established and award-winning artists. Forty plays will be chosen for the 2009 edition of the festival. |

Participant’s information 2009:
- Applications for the 2009 festival will commence on January 6h and will be accepted until March 6, 2009. For more information visit http://www.samuelfrench.com/oobfestival for application and submission details.
- Deadline: March 6, 2009. No play will be accepted after this date for the 2009 festival. 40 short plays will be selected — chosen from hundreds of submissions by playwriting workshops, university theatre programs, and professional companies nationwide.
- The 34th Annual Samuel French Inc. Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival will take place from July 14-19, 2009 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, located at 416 West 42nd Street, New York.
- Selected plays will be performed before a panel of judges comprised of established playwrights, literary agents and artistic directors. Six finalists will be chosen to have their plays licensed and published by Samuel French, Inc.
