Festival Description | The inaugural Festival of New American Musicals took place in 2008 in southern California. FNAM featurs new works, works in progress, cabarets, staged readings, lectures, workshops and master classes to venues throughout the city and stretching as far as Ventura and San Diego. Concert performances will take place—by composers, lyricists, book writers, performers, students, directors, choreographers, designers, sound and lighting directors, producers and devotees. The Festival begins with the Work of Stephen Sondheim, to whom the Festival is dedicated, along with two months of of new American musicals. The Geffen Playhouse, Pasadena Playhouse, Old Globe Theatre, UCLA Live!, University of Southern California, Southgate High School and Birmingham High School are scouting new material for the festival. The Rubicon Theatre, Hollywood Bowl, L.A. Master Chorale and Pepperdine University already have announced specific. expects to work closely with area high schools and colleges to bring young audiences to the theaters or, in some cases, to bring the theaters to them. |
