Festival Description | The town of Buncrana, in the Inishowen peninsula, Co. Donegal hosted its first traditional arts festival in March/April 2006. Buncrana over the years has yielded a great amount and quality of musical talent. To recognise this, Ar Ais Arís, Buncrana’s Traditional Arts Festival has been created as a celebration of the wealth of talent to emerge from the area. The inaugural festival was a homecoming of sorts for the many musicians, singers and dancers who were born and reared in the town and its environs, and who now rank among the top artists perfroming internationally. The festival programme crammed in over a dozen events (concerts, recitals, ceili, workshops, traditional masses, late night gigs, workshops, lectures) as well as a session trail with traditional music and song available in local pubs all through the weekend and featured top musicians from all over Ireland, the UK and the USA. |
