Festival Description | WINTERFEST began in 1999 and is an annual music festival that runs from the end of November until the middle of February. The festival typically features chamber music, but does not have a strict adhearance to one genre. The event program is a set of concerts to celebrate the occasions of St. Cecilia’s Day in November, Christmas in December, New Year and Orthodox Christmas in January, consequently, and finally the regular anniversary of Hermanis Braun Foundation in February. Usually there are up to ten concerts in the repertoire of WINTERFEST. The concerts differ in their genre and programs, however, they are united with the participation of world-known musicians. The famous Russian bass Anatoly Safiulin and the Moscow male choir PRAVOSLAVNIYE PEVCHIYE (the Orthodox Singers) perform annually during the winter season. In 2001 Hermanis Braun Foundation launched a new tradition of performing Bach’s WEIHNACHTSORATORIUM during the festival. The other tradition started in 2002 is to open the festival with the celebration of St. Cecilia’s Day. |
