Highlights 2012:
- BODY&SOUL;
- They will be joining us again this year with its trademark fantasy trimmings, bespoke stages and hideaway corners with the usual careful selection of Irish and international acts, quirky installations and exciting surprises around every twist and turn of it’s all-encompassing realm.
- MINDFIELD AREA
- The area returns to the Picnic with a huge feast of food for thought. Leviathan political and economic debate, hosted by David McWilliams; History Ireland Hedge School; Irish and international writers on the Arts Council Literary Stage, curated by Dermot Bolger; cutting edge theatre; mind-blowing experiments and talks in the Science Gallery’s inflatable tent; cúpla focail leis An Puball Gaeilge; big uplifting words and beats on the Word Stage, hosted by Marty Mulligan; and much much more to be announced.
- GLOBAL GREEN
- The colourful and enchanting GLOBAL GREEN brings together a wide community of cultural creatives, activists, artists, social entrepreneurs and civil society organisations. Blending the themes of creativity and collaboration, the Global Green 2012 will illuminate and showcase good ideas for the future.
- SALTY DOG STAGE
- Meanwhile, in the murky shadows of the woods in Stradbally, an old friend peels a few leaves off his forehead and flicks a caterpillar from behind his ear, and recalls some distant promise to try harder… its the captain of the SALTY DOG STAGE, stumbling into the lengthening Spring days with his flies undone and wondering how the winter was so effortlessly squandered. The proud shipwreck — French in origin, French in odour — stands tall among the giants at Electric Picnic, promising to round up the fringes of society and give them stage to play on. Sea shanties from pub-tanned codgers, bluegrass at the whim of corn-nibblers down from the hills, blues solos from tinny-swilling double bassists with bockety eyes, and the occasional cracking set from a confused rock-star kidnapped from the main stage and spirited into the forest… these titans will walk upon the timber deck of the boat, to the roars of the Salty Dog’s devoted followers, get swallowed into the over-eager fog of dry ice, and have the time of their lives.
- THEATRE OF FOOD
- Serving as a homage to all things gastronomic, THEATRE OF FOOD will be incorporating several elements including the food demos in the NEFF kitchen, wine tastings, gastro-competitions, panel discussions, pop up dining, as well as Bridgestone Guide Awards and the Farmers Market which features a host of local producers, fresh local produce, cakes and treats, crafts and much more.
- The COMEDY TENT
- This space promises to be the most exciting line up ever. Meander down round midday stake your spot and drink in the heavenly banter and witty badinage in the coolest joint on the site.
- TRENCHTOWN
- Discover the spirit of Jamaica tucked away in the deepest forest’s of Stradbally at TRENCHTOWN. Or simply enjoy some old world pleasures with candyfloss and cartwheels at FOSSETS CIRCUS.
