- About
- Visiting Arts is returning to the Fadjr Festival in Tehran, Iran, to deliver a tranche of activity including a five-day workshop, Contemporary Myths, from 21-25 January 2010. The workshop will give theatre practitioners and writers from Iran and the UK the opportunity to meet and share practice, developing and practically exploring new ideas through collaboration around a common artistic interest – the adaptation of myth for contemporary performance. The project probes the powerful ongoing presence of myths in our lives and in the way we express ourselves. It is also a vital next step in forging long-term creative relationships and dialogue between the UK and Iran. The first Contemporary Myths workshop took place in August 2009 in the context of the Edinburgh Festivals. This second workshop will take the project to Iran to explore myths in a different cultural context, opening the dialogue to a new group of artists, and developing the lab model for fostering creative collaboration. Previous Visiting Arts visits to Fadjr have generated a legacy of work: productions have been brought to the UK from Iran and vice versa; relationships have been formed and strengthened between arts organisations in both countries, and new collaborative work has been initiated. For more information on our previous Iran programmes please see our website. This year’s visit will build on our previous connections and continue to broaden the channels of communication and exchange between the UK and Iran at a time when intercultural understanding is most needed. We are currently selecting theatre practitioners and writers to travel from the UK to Iran for this workshop.
