Festival Description

It was in the summer of 1988 that one tent and some bleachers were constructed at Munich’s Olympic Park and given the name: “Tollwood Festival”. Back then, nobody could have foreseen that this one-week-long tent festival would ultimately become an institution in Munich’s cultural life. In the summer of 2013 from June 26 to July 21 the Tollwood Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary. This is the ideal occasion for a very special and outstanding program on all the stages at the foot of the Olympic Mountain.

Tollwood time is concert time: the Festival will celebrate its birthday with newcomers, chart toppers and rock legends. German and international artists like ZZ Top, Santana, Roger Hodgson, Calexico, the Pet Shop Boys and Crosby, Stills & Nash will all be on stage in the Music Arena.

The Tollwood idea was born at “MUH”, a cabaret-theatre in Munich, a musical greenhouse, where quite a few famous artists did their first gigs. At this year’s Summer Festival the “MUH” tent will present such luminaries as Konstantin Wecker and Bavarian cabaret per- former Helmut Schleich. The “Market of Ideas” will feature a new Indian Bazaar tent as well as organic food from every continent, exciting theatrical productions and lots more sur- prises. There’s plenty to look forward to at Tollwood’s Anniversary Summer.

Festival Dates June 26 - July 21, 2013

Festival Story:

The Tollwood Festival: Tollwood is a privately operated company presenting cultural events and environmental activities, comprising a cultural tent festival in Munich twice a year. The festival combines three different aspects: a cultural program incorporating mu- sic, theatre, performances and arts; several activities to promote environmental protection and further ecological awareness. Then there is the “market of ideas” with or- ganic food and international handicrafts. The one-time small, regional festival founded in 1988 has developed today into a renowned cultural event, which is known nationwide and attended by 1.5 million people each year. The summer festival takes place over a period of about 25 days in June and July, while in winter the festival starts just before the first Sun- day in Advent, and features a Christmas market through December 23 and cultural activities up to New Year’s Eve. The complete summer festival program will soon be available at
