| Festival Description | The year 2009 marks a radical shift for the Waga Hip Hop Festival. We want to grow this event beyond traditional hip hop networks and to reach the masses beyond Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso. From October 12th to 17th Waga Hip hop will go “open-air”. Instead of the conventional closed music-venues we will be throwing our events for the people in the open air and free of charge. For the past nine years the festival was presented in many important cities in Burkina Faso including: Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Pô, Ouahigouya, Koudougou, Fada N’ Gourma and stood out as one of the most important cultural events in West Africa. Our program is as rich and dynamic as ever and includes: “The African Cup” of Rap, The National Clash Party, A Break Dance Battle, and A Slam Contest. And that’s not all — for the first time ever a prolific hip hop seminar will be held behind the scenes with the purpose of uniting and growing the African Hip Hop industries. Festival Story:
The International Urban Cultures, Waga Hip Hop takes place each October in Burkina Faso. The festival is 100% free, featuring a line-up of national and international artists. Innovations include creating a venue for underground hip hop in an unexpected place within the capital of Burkina Faso, in addition to events at French Cultural Center and the American Cultural Center. The festival whose work was initiated since 2003, also confirms its desire to relocate to provincial cities.
