| Festival Description | Les Paris-Bamako music festival is hosted by Amadou & Mariam in Bamako, Mali. The event features performances by artists-in-residence who collaborate with local artists to produce and stage a show of wholly original performances. The show will then be put on several months later in other world culture capitals—Montreal, Quebec, Paris and Brussels. The benefits of this event go directly to the Institute des Jeunes Aveugles du Mali (Mali Institute for Blind Youth - IJA), the same school where Amadou and Mariam met years ago. The starting point for the festival took place at the institution, and involved the participation of the visually impaired youth who are enrolled there. In 2006 eyeglass designer Alain Mikli joined Les Paris Bamako as its official festival partner throughout the world. |
