Festival Description

The annual Dance Parade takes to the streets of New York City with a multi-cultural parade, uniting dancers of all genres throughout the city. The parade begins on 21st Street and Broadway, travels south through Union Square, turns east onto 8th Street and continues into Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. Dance Parade New York will include 70 styles of dance, ranging from classical ballet to contemporary hip-hop to holistic, therapeutic, expressive dance. The Parade will showcase over 300 dance organizations and over 10,000 dancers.

The parade is designed to celebrate the history of dance and unfolds chronologically, beginning with the most ancient forms of dance and ending with contemporary and urban styles. During the afternoon and evening Tompkins Square Park hosts DanceFest, which includes a myriad of free dance performances, workshops, lessons and social dancing on stage and in the basketball courts, along with aerial performances.
